Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy explains what information WebIPTool (“the site”, “we”) processes when you use webiptool.com, why, and what choices you have. It is written to be read, not skimmed past. If anything is unclear, write to contact@webiptool.com.

The short version

  • The IP address shown on the home page is read from your request, displayed to you, and not stored by this site.
  • Addresses and names you enter into the tools are not stored by this site.
  • This site does not ask you to create an account and does not collect your name or email.
  • Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify you.
  • The site shows advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads.
  • You can opt out of personalized ads, and visitors in Europe are asked for consent first.

Information that is processed when you visit

Your IP address and connection details

Every request to any website includes the IP address it came from. This site uses that address, together with network details supplied by our hosting provider, to show you:

  • your public IP address and its version (IPv4 or IPv6)
  • your internet provider and network number
  • an approximate location (city, region, country) and timezone

This information is assembled for each request and sent back to you. We do not write it to a database, a file, or any log that we control.

To test each protocol separately, the home page also has your browser contact ipv4.icanhazip.com and ipv6.icanhazip.com. These belong to icanhazip.com, a public service run by Cloudflare, the company that also hosts this site. Each one replies with the address your browser connected from. Those two requests go to Cloudflare directly and do not pass through our server. Cloudflare handles them under its own privacy policy.

Information your browser shows you

The browser details panel and the User Agent tool display your browser version, operating system, screen size, language, and similar settings. These are read by a script running in your own browser and shown on your screen. They are not sent to us.

Tools

Tool What happens to what you enter
IP Lookup The address you enter is sent to our server, which forwards it to our data provider, IPinfo, to retrieve public information about it. We do not store it. Private and reserved addresses are answered by our server and are not sent to anyone.
DNS Lookup and Reverse DNS Your browser sends the query directly to Cloudflare’s public DNS service. It does not pass through our server.
Subnet Calculator Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
User Agent Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Rate limiting

To keep the API and tools available, we limit how many requests one IP address can make per minute. The counter is held in memory for a short time at the data center handling your request. It is not written to storage and is not linked to any other information.

Our hosting provider

The site runs on Cloudflare’s network. Like any hosting provider, Cloudflare processes request data, including IP addresses, in order to deliver pages and to detect and block attacks. Cloudflare does this under its own privacy policy.

We have not enabled request logging for this site’s code. We do not receive or keep a log of individual visitors’ IP addresses.

Cookies and similar storage

Set by this site. WebIPTool itself sets no cookies. If you use the light or dark theme switch, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage so it persists between visits. It never leaves your device.

Set by advertising partners. When advertising is shown, Google and its partners set and read cookies, as described in the next section.

Advertising

This site uses Google AdSense to display ads.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of some other vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.

For details on how Google handles data from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Ads are not shown on this policy, the Terms of Use, the Contact page, the API endpoints, or error pages.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you are shown a consent message before advertising cookies are used. The message is provided by a consent management platform certified by Google and follows the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework.

Until you choose, advertising and analytics storage are set to “denied”. You can accept, reject, or manage individual purposes and vendors.

You can change your choice at any time using the Privacy settings link at the bottom of every page.

Your choices

  • Personalized ads. Turn them off for your Google account or browser in Google Ads Settings.
  • Consent. If you were shown a consent message, reopen it at any time with the Privacy settings link at the bottom of every page.
  • Cookies. Your browser can block or delete cookies. The site works without them.
  • Theme. The light or dark setting is stored only in your browser. Clearing site data removes it.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read, and how quickly pages load. Cloudflare, our hosting provider, adds a small script to each page for this.

According to Cloudflare’s description of the service, it does not use cookies or your browser’s local storage, and it does not “fingerprint” individuals by IP address, browser details, or any other data. We do not use it for advertising.

The reports show totals: counts of page views and visits, page load times, which page was viewed and which site linked to it, and visitors’ country, browser, operating system, and type of device. Cloudflare lists these in its Web Analytics documentation. The reports do not list individual visitors or their IP addresses.

Cloudflare handles this data under its own privacy policy.

Email

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and do not add you to any list.

How long data is kept

This site does not keep personal data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Data held by Google or Cloudflare is governed by their policies, linked above.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to a data protection authority. Because we do not store personal data about visitors, we usually have nothing to provide or delete, but we will answer any request. For data held by Google, use the tools in your Google account and the links above.

We do not sell personal information.

Children

This site is a general reference tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted on the home page for a reasonable period.
